Two men were shot to death after an apparent home invasion Sunday morning in the South Chicago neighborhood.

About 5 a.m., Chicago police were summoned to an apartment building in the 9100 block of South Commerical Avenue. The caller said a man had been shot in a neighboring apartment and turned up at the neighbor’s door for help, according to police.

The injured man collapsed in the neighbor’s apartment and was dead by the time officers arrived. Police found a second man shot to death in the building. Both men were thought to be in their mid-30s.

Police are investigating the shooting as an apparent home invasion, according to Chicago Police Officer Michael O’Sullivan, a department spokesman.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the deaths but did not release further details Sunday morning.

No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.

The two were among four people shot and killed in violence across the city this weekend. Twelve others were wounded in reported shootings across Chicago.
