80-year-old told to stop shooting icicles

Updated: February 16, 2014 6:26AM

An elderly west suburban man will not be charged after choosing an unconventional method to knock icicles off his house — a handgun.

The man was caught shooting icicles hanging from his home Friday morning in west suburban St. Charles Township, Kane County Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Pat Gengler said.

The 80-year-old man was shooting icicles hanging from his second-floor roof with a .22 revolver, Gengler said.

A neighbor called police to report the gunfire, he said.

Police told the man not to shoot any more icicles.

Reached by phone Tuesday, the man’s wife did not disclose why her husband shot at the icicles but said there was no damage to the home. She said her husband had no comment: “There’s nothing to talk about.”
