A former nursing assistant has been charged with drug-induced homicide in the death of a friend who authorities say took morphine the woman gave him after stealing it from work.
Michelle Johnson, 40, of Palatine, also was charged Friday with theft over $500 and delivery of a controlled substance in the May 26 death of 34-year-old John Maher in Palatine, the Cook County sherriff’s office said.
Johnson was ordered held Saturday on $250,000 bail.
The sheriff’s police said Johnson stole pharmaceutical-grade morphine from a medical facility where she worked in unincorporated Maine Township.
