1 dead, 9 wounded in shootings across Chicago this weekend

One man has been killed and nine other people wounded in shootings across the city of Chicago since Friday.

A 34-year-old South Side man died after being shot several times early Saturday on a sidewalk in South Deering, police said. Jeffery Whiters, 34, was found around 12:15 a.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of East 100th Street with gunshot wounds to his right thigh and left side, authorities said. Whiters was pronounced dead shortly before 3 a.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

In the other shootings:

Just after 10:30 p.m. Saturday, a 21-year-old man was shot in his lower right leg in the 5100 block of South King Drive in Washington Park on the South Side. He was taken to Stroger Hospital.

Around 6:45 p.m. Saturday, a 23-year-old man was shot in a leg in what the police think was a drive-by shooting in the 4300 block of South Prairie Avenue in Grand Boulevard on the South Side. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center for treatment.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday, a car pulled alongside a group walking in the 7900 block of South Kenwood Avenue in Avalon Park on the South Side, and someone inside opened fire, hitting a 17-year-old boy in the abdomen. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition, according to the police.

Just after 6 p.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of West 93rd Street in Washington Heights, a 33-year-old man was shot in the lower back. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in “stable” condition.

Around 6 a.m. Saturday in the 4700 block of South Michigan Avenue in Grand Boulevard, a 29-year-old man suffered a leg wound and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

A 21-year-old man was shot in a leg around 4:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of South Morgan Street in University Village and went on his own to Stroger Hospital for treatment.

A 20-year-old man was shot after he crashed his minivan into a fire hydrant early Saturday in West Englewood. He was westbound in the 1200 block of 72nd Place jsut before 2 a.m. Saturday when he crashed, according ot the police, who said that when he got out, he ws shot in the abdomen. Hewas taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was described as “stable.”

A 16-year-old boy was shot multiple times in a leg around 8 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of North Central Avenue in Austin and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

A 17-year-old boy was shot in his left leg around 5:45 p.m. Friday by a group who tried to rob him in the 4700 block of West Adams Street in Austin, police said. He was being treated at Loretto Hospital.
