Brookfield Zoo has a brand-new baby girl gorilla, a zoo spokeswoman said Tuesday.
The gorilla, which doesn’t yet have a name, was born early Mondays, zoo spokeswoman Sondra Katzen said.
“Things seem to be going very well,” Katzen said. “It has been seen nursing, and obviously mom is holding it very close.”
Zoo officials haven’t yet determined the weight of the new western lowland gorilla. Baby gorillas typically weigh between 4 and 5 pounds, Katzen said.
Visitors should be able to get a look at the new addition this week in the exhibit, “Tropic World: Africa.”
The infant was born to 18-year-old Koola and JoJo, 33, the father.
