CALUMET CITY — Four people were in need of shelter early Tuesday after their home caught fire in south suburban Calumet City.
Firefighters responded to the second story blaze in the 400 block of Freeland Avenue in Calumet City about 12:10 a.m., said Calumet City Fire Capt. Glenn Bachert.
There were no injuries. It took firefighters less than an hour to extinguish the fire, Bachert said.
However, water damage rendered the house uninhabitable, Bachert said. The American Red Cross was on the scene to aid the displaced residents.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Calumet City Fire Department.
