People trying to use LINK and other debit-type cards to make food-stamp purchases in Illinois and 16 other states temporarily were unable to do so Saturday after “a routine test of backup systems” caused a temporary system failure.
But the problem was fixed by Saturday night, according to the Illinois Department of Human Services.
Illinois takes part in the program through LINK cards.
A spokeswoman for food-stamp contractor Xerox Corp. said the electronic benefits system was restored but there was a lag before consumers found their cards again worked.
