URBANA, Ill. (AP) — The University of Illinois says a 20-year-old woman who died after a truck struck her on campus was a student.
University spokeswoman Robin Kaler said Thursday that Mimi Liu was a junior studying in the school’s College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.
Liu died Wednesday at Carle Foundation Hospital. A second 20-year-old woman was hospitalized in stable condition.
Urbana police cited 58-year-old Willie Craft Sr. for driving without insurance and improper lane usage.
Investigators say Craft’s truck left the road several times, drove across a sidewalk and struck street signs before hitting the two women.
Liu is the second university student to die in two months.
Mengchen Huang was stabbed to death in her apartment last month. A former boyfriend was charged with murder.
