State officials are investigating the death of a 7-year-old south suburban girl who died Wednesday, but police say there are no signs of criminal activity in connection with the death.
Bailee Zaker of the 15000 block of Aspen Court in Oak Forest collapsed Wednesday and was taken to Palos Community Hospital, where she died at 2:21 p.m., according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Bailee was still breathing when police and an ambulance arrived, Oak Forest police Sgt. A. Lopez said.
An autopsy Thursday was inconclusive, with results pending further studies, according to the medical examiner’s office.
DCFS is investigating the girl’s babysitter and mother for allegations of abuse and neglect, agency spokesman Karen Hawkins said. Bailee’s only sibling has been placed with a relative under a DCFS-monitored safety plan.
The agency had no prior reports involving the family, Hawkins said.
Oak Forest police are investigating while they await conclusive results from the medical examiner’s office, but Lopez said there is no evidence of criminal activity.
