A cooler — initially investigated as a suspicious package — left on a downtown Metra platform Wednesday morning triggered hour-plus delays for commuters on Metra Electric and South Shore Line trains.
The cooler was found at the Van Buren station about 6:50 a.m. Eventually, the Chicago Fire Department confirmed the item posed no danger and authorities wrapped up their investigation around 8:20 a.m.
South Shore Line trains were on the move again as of 8:25 a.m. and Metra Electric inbound trains, halted near the station, were running as of 8:20 a.m.
It also created headaches for those not traveling by train: Jackson was temporarily closed from Columbus Drive to Michigan Avenue, Chicago Police said.
