A man was killed on his 32nd birthday when he and two others were hit by a speeding teenage driver Tuesday night as they crossed a South Side street, police said.

Eugene Ratcliff died shortly after he was struck by the 17-year-old boy in the speeding 2013 Volkswagen Jetta, near the 8300 block of Blackstone about 9 p.m., authorities said.

The driver, who hit the three as they crossed a street, lost control off the car and crashed into a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire, police said. The driver of that car was not seriously injured.

Ratcliff, of the 8200 block of South Dante, was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn where he died at 9:45 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

One of the injured pedestrians, a 22-year-old man, was taken to Jackson Park Hospital in good condition. The other, a 30-year-old woman, was taken to South Shore Hospital in stable condition, police said.

Charges are pending against the teen, who declined medical attention and was arrested at the scene. Police would not say if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
