The death of the 49-year-old Michigan man Tuesday at a west suburban gun range has been ruled a suicide.
An autopsy Thursday found Michael Babinski died of a gunshot wound to the neck, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Babinski suffered the gunshot wound about 1:55 p.m. Tuesday in the gun range area at Midwest Guns in the 8500 block of Plainfield Road in Lyons, authorities said. An employee from Midwest Guns called police after the shooting.
Babinski, of Pickford Township, Mich., was initially taken in critical condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead at 5:36 p.m., authorities said.
Police recovered a .45-caliber and a 9 mm handgun that Babinski may have fired at the range that day.
Lyons Police Cmdr. Brian Kuratko Kuratko said police were still investigating whether Babinski had a firearm owner’s identification card.
Kuratko also said he had no indication Babinski was shot more than once, as authorities originally reported.
