Missing boater’s body pulled from lake

Shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday evening, the body of the missing boater in Lake Marie in far north suburban Antioch was recovered by rescue personnel, according to an Illinois Department of Natural Resources conservation officer.

Antioch Fire Department spokesman Chris Lienhardt said they received a call of a man in the water at 6:21 p.m. Tuesday just north of the Sandbar Bar and Grille.

“We don’t know exactly what caused him to fall in,” said IDNR Conservation Officer Rich Riedel, “but he did have some engine problems and he took the cover off the motor and set it on the back of the boat.

“When he fell in the cover went along with him. He was holding onto the side of the boat for 5 to 8 minutes before he slipped underwater,” he said. He was not boating with any other boaters, but his 13-year-old daughter was in the boat and Riedel said the girl called 911 from her cell phone. The man is described as being 40 to 45 years old,

A press conference is expected to be held Wednesday morning.
