A mother and son were rescued from a Glenview high-rise overnight after a small but intense blaze in a ninth-floor apartment.
Heavy flames could be seen shooting from the ninth-floor apartment at 3925 Triumvera Drive before the two scrambled down a 100-foot ladder.
“I was like ‘I have to be alive, I have to be safe. I have to do what the fire department said,’” said Sungwon Choi, 14. “Survival — that was the only thing on my mind.”
A “couple” people suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization, Glenview Fire Chief Wayne Globerger said.
While flames were quickly extinguished, smoke filled the ninth floor and several other residents were evacuated, Globerger said.
