Firefighter hospitalized after South Side blaze

A firefighter was hospitalized after a fire broke out in a restaurant on the Far South Side Monday morning.

A mayday call, signaling firefighters were in distress, was sent out shortly before 7 a.m. as crews worked to extinguish the fire in the 10500 block of South Ewing, according to Fire Media Affairs.

One firefighter was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital in good condition, fire media said. No further information on the type or extent of the firefighter’s injuries were immediately available.

The fire was reported out about 7:15 a.m.
