Day care operator sentenced to probation for pocketing state subsidies

A Frankfort woman was sentenced to 36 months probation Thursday after she pleaded guilty to theft for swindling thousands of dollars in state funds earmarked for subsidized day care.
Yohvaughn Brown’s Starbright day care center vacated its Markham-based premises after the company lost its lease in late 2009.
But Brown still submitted false documents to the Illinois Department of Human Services between December 2009 and April 2010 and pocketed the $71,000 that was to go to her business, the Illinois attorney general’s office said.
Brown’s day care facility previously received funds for the subsidized day care program for low-income families, prosecutors said following her 2011 arrest.
Brown, 41, on Thursday was also ordered to pay $71, 243 in restitution, according to court records.
