An 18-year-old who had attended a north suburban high school has been charged with second-degree murder in New York, Pioneer Press is reporting.
Maxwell Sherman, of Long Beach, N.Y., was arrested Aug. 24 in connection with the death of 18-year-old Lauren Daverin, according to the Nassau County Sheriff’s office.
Sherman “allegedly strangled Daverin” and left her “nude and in a pool of blood, according to those who found her body,” The Rockville Centre Herald reported. Daverin, who also lived on Long Island, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The murder investigation, Nassau County police said, began Aug. 22 when Daverin’s body was discovered about 10 p.m. on a pond’s footbridge in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
The former Barrington High School student was arraigned Aug. 25 in Hempstead, N.Y.
Sherman and his family split time between their New York and Barrington homes, said Jeff Arnett, spokesman for Barrington Unit District 220.
Sherman attended classes at Barrington High last year, but Arnett was unsure if he obtained a diploma from District 220.
