Student photographs removed from chef Charlie Trotter’s restaurant

The student photographs held hostage by celebrity chef Charlie Trotter were removed from his restaurant Friday.
“We worked with the site owner to retrieve the teens’ artwork and any other personal belongings that may have been left at the site and will make sure that all materials are returned to teens as soon as possible,” After School Matters CEO Mary Ellen Caron said in a statement.
The works ended up in Trotter’s now-closed Lincoln Park restaurant after he agreed to let students that are part of an After School Matters photography program use the space as a gallery on Friday.
The chef apparently became offended when the After School Matters instructor Thursday refused to order his students to sweep floors and plunge toilets, students told the Sun-Times Thursday night after the chef allegedly kicked them out of the restaurant.
Trotter sits on the board of directors of After School Matters, an organization that offers Chicago teens after school activities. A spokeswoman for the program did not respond to questions about Trotter’s future on the organization’s board.
