A Northwest Indiana teenager killed three kittens with a bow and arrow, then posted pictures of their bodies online because he was “bored,” police said.
The 17-year-old East Chicago, Ind., boy told investigators he felt “bored” during the week of Aug. 4 and decided to use a compound bow and arrow to “hunt” kittens living in the alley behind his home, a statement from the Lake County Sheriff’s office said.
The teen admitted killing three kittens, one of which was speared through the head with an arrow, and another of which was disemboweled, according to police.
The teen then posted pictures of himself playing with the dead kittens on Facebook, the statement said. The photos were later removed from Facebook because of their “objectionable nature,” according to police.
“I just don’t know how someone could do this to someone so tiny and innocent. It’s very disturbing,” said Jennelle Melendy of the Lake County Sheriff’s Animal Shelter.
The teen is facing felony charges of killing a domestic animal and torturing or mutilating a domestic animal, police said.
Melendy said she did not know if the kittens were someone’s pets or strays.
