A 22-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle early Sunday on the Near North Side.
The motorist was driving northbound in the 400 block of Columbus Drive about 2 a.m. when his vehicle struck a pedestrian walking west across Water Street, said Chicago Police Officer Jose Estrada, a department spokesman.
The pedestrian was taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with injuries to his head and torso, Estrada said.
Phillip Beverly, 34, told police he had a green light and was unable to avoid striking the pedestrian who crossed against the light, Estrada said. He also was taken to Northwestern with minor injuries.
Beverly, of the 7500 block of South King Drive, was issued a ticket for failure to exercise due care for a pedestrian in the road, Estrada said.
