A Cook County jail inmate awaiting sentencing for a 2007 murder died of natural causes in his cell Friday, authorities said.
Percy Banks was found unresponsive Friday afternoon in his cell, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy Saturday determined that Banks, 62, died from complications related to coronary atherosclerosis and liver cirrhosis that he contracted from a Hepatitis C infection, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Banks was convicted in Dec. 2012 of murder, the sheriff’s office said.
