Updated: August 12, 2013 12:16PM

Five people were arrested, including two men possibly dressed as women, after robbing a bike messenger Monday morning on a Blue Line train, police said.

The suspects attempted unsuccessfully to grab the messenger’s bicycle while on the train at Van Buren and Clinton about 6:15 a.m., according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

They then grabbed his bag and ran off the train at Van Buren and Wacker, he said.

The messenger pursued the group until a Central District patrol officer responding to a 911 call about the crime arrived, Mirabelli said. The messenger pointed out the suspects to the officer, who jumped out of his car and pursued them.

He arrested three suspects, then spotted and arrested the other two at Washington and Wabash, Mirabelli said.

The suspects are described as two males, one female and two males possibly dressed as females, Mirabelli said.

The bike messenger was able to reclaim his property, Mirabelli said.
