Indiana Gov. Mike Pence plans to help honor the rescuers who pulled 6-year-old Nathan Woessner of downstate Sterling out after he was buried for more than three hours under 11 feet of sand when a section of dune collapsed at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore last month.
The event is set for Aug. 28 in Michigan City, Ind.
Nathan was rescued after being buried for more than three hours on July 12 in a dune called Mount Baldy.
He was released last month from the University of Chicago Hospitals, where doctors said he underwent physical, occupational and speech therapy.
On Monday, the Michigan City Fire Department honored firefighters involved in the rescue.
