When a Will County woman working with her family onboard a charter boat docked at Navy Pier noticed her teenage daughter had gone missing, she did what any mother would do — she became frantic.
The 911 call Wednesday shortly before 8 a.m. brought out the Chicago Fire Department’s dive team, a helicopter equipped with an infrared camera, about a dozen vehicles — some three dozen people in all.
It turns out the 18-year-old daughter had left the boat — apparently without telling her mother — and boarded a bus from Navy Pier, security folks at the pier discovered after reviewing security cameras.
The search lasted about an hour, and Chicago Fire spokesman Larry Langford was briefing reporters about the fruitless mission, when he stopped and said: “Wait a minute. I have something.”
That something was the video surveillance.
“It’s a relief to know she’s not in the water,” Langford said.
