A 6-year-old boy drowned Saturday in a retention pond near his home in Naperville.

A little after 11:30 a.m. Saturday, a 911 call reported a child in the pond at 95th Street and Cedar Glade on the southwest side of Naperville.

The caller pulled young Amer Khan from the water and began performing CPR, authorities said.

Police arrived, then paramedics, and continued CPR as they rushed Amer to Edward Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 12:30 p.m..

“I see him all the time,” Nicole Kovach, a neighbor, said of the little boy, calling what happened “horrible.”

Authorities said the little boy drowned but provided no other details. They said they are investigating what happened. An autopsy is planned Sunday.
