A bicyclist has died after he collided with a car Monday in the Portage Park neighborhood on Chicago’s Northwest Side.

Rafael Ramirez, 33, suffered a head injury when he sideswiped a car about 2:15 p.m. Monday near West Addison Street and North Central Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada.

Ramirez was northbound on Central, attempting to turn left onto Addison when he sideswiped a 1999 Saturn travelling west through the intersection with the right of way, Estrada said.

He fell from his bike and suffered a head injury, Estrada said. He was initially taken to nearby Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, but was later transferred to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Ramirez, of the 7200 block of West Diversey Avenue in Elmwood Park, died at the hospital about 2 a.m. Wednesday, the medical examiner’s office said.
