Celebrity Chef Rick Bayless is hammering out a lease agreement for a West Loop property that will house his latest restaurant.
The address of the site is 900 W. Randolph, according to a source.
Bayless did not return calls for comment Wednesday and details of the restaurant were not available, but it’s believed Bayless will not stray far from the Mexican fare that made his a household name.
The area has become a hub of hot new eateries that include chef Stephanie Izard’s Girl & the Goat and Grant Achatz’s Next.
Bayless, who lives in Bucktown, has three main Chicago restaurants: Topolobampo, Frontera Grill and Xoco, all in the River North neighborhood.
“The West Loop is out of control for restaurants, everyone wants to be in there right now,” said Danny Spitz, vice president of Baum Realty Group in Chicago. “Rent is about half of what it would be in River North and having Google offices move into the neighborhood and all the other new office space will drive lunch time traffic. It makes sense he’d go there.”
