A 55-year-old man died Thursday afternoon after an accident at his workplace in southwest suburban Frankfort.
The Frankfort Fire Protection District responded to a call from Pactiv Corp., 437 Center St., about a man trapped in a machine about 3 p.m., according to Battalion Chief Sean Fierce.
When crews arrived on the scene, Thomas Calvert, of Park Forest, was out of the machine, apparently having been removed by co-workers, Fierce said.
He was taken by helicopter to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, Fierce said.
Calvert died at Christ Medical Center at 4:17 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
An autopsy scheduled for Friday will determine the cause of death, but preliminary information listed it as a crushing injury, the medical examiner’s office said.
A representative for Pactiv was not available to comment Thursday night.
