Strong thunderstorms heading toward Chicago

Updated: June 21, 2013 5:47PM

A strong line thunderstorms, which could include hail and strong winds, is expected to move into the Chicago metro area Friday afternoon.

The National Weather Service issued a “special weather statement” warning Cook, DuPage, DeKalb and surrounding counties of strong thunderstorms moving east along a line that currently stretches from Lake Forest to Yorkville at about 30 mph.

Large hail and 30-45 mph winds, with gusts up to 60 mph, could come along with heavy downpours. Localized flooding is possible as a result of the rain, the weather service warns.

The storms are expected to pass by late afternoon, according to the weather service.

Friday night is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a chance of showers and a low around 73. High temperatures over the weekend should reach 90 degrees, with a chance of showers each day.
