Woman killed, 11 people injured in shootings across Chicago: cops

One woman was killed and at least 11 people were wounded by gunfire in separate shootings across the city Monday afternoon and evening.

Five people were shot about 4:55 p.m. in a drive-by attack in the 5700 block of South Sangamon, Chicago Police said. An 18-year-old woman was shot in the throat and died. A 15-year-old boy was shot in the right leg; an 18-year-old man in the abdomen; a 20-year-old man in the left hand and right knee, and a 21-year-old man in the left leg, police said.

Paramedics took two people in critical condition to Stroger Hospital and two people in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Chicago Fire Department. Fire Department officials said the 21-year-old man made it on his own to Saint Bernard Hospital.

A 19-year-old man was shot in a drive-by attack about 8:25 p.m. Monday in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said. He was walking in the 5200 block of South Fairfield when someone passing by in a red vehicle shot him. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

About 8 p.m., a person was shot with a BB gun in the 3100 block of West Lake Street, Fire Media Affairs said. Paramedics took the person to Stroger Hospital.

About 5:30 p.m., a bullet grazed a man’s head in the 1400 block of East 66th Place in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side. He was in good condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.

About 3:25 p.m. Monday, a man and woman, both 20, were wounded in a shooting in the 4800 block of North Sheridan in the Uptown neighborhood. The woman was shot in the knee and shoulder; the man was shot in the knee. They were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Just before 3 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot in the left hand in a possible drive-by attack as he walked in the 8900 block of South Buffalo, police said. The boy was taken in good condition to Advocate Trinity Hospital.

About 2:50 p.m., paramedics took a male gunshot victim from the 7000 block of South Bishop to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.
