Police rescued two capsized kayakers from the frigid waters of Lake Michigan on Sunday afternoon.
The men had been in the water for about 15 minutes when police, responding to a 911 caller who spotted the men from land, plucked them from the water a quarter mile off Foster Avenue Beach at 3 p.m., said police marine unit Officer Mark Flechsig. Lake Michigan water temperatures hovered around 55 degrees.
The men, in their 30s, declined medical treatment.
In a separate incident about six hours later, police plucked a man in his 20s from the water near Navy Pier after he jumped off the cruise ship Odyssey II as it was attempting to dock.
Police were trying to determine whether the man, who was not injured, needed a psych evaluation or was intoxicated.
