Police on Saturday were questioning a suspect in the shooting this week of a 9-year-old boy on the South Side, a source said.
The boy was shot in the chest about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 6700 block of South Evans Avenue.
He was taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, police said.
The suspect was in custody on Saturday and detectives were talking to the suspect, a law enforcement source said.
As family members left the hospital on Wednesday, the boy’s mother responded to questions by reporters about the boy’s condition, saying, “He’s fine.”
