The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was investigating the death of a four-month-old boy on the city’s South Side on Sunday.
The baby was found unresponsive about 10 a.m. Sunday with no visible trauma at the family’s home in the 9800 block of South Drexel, police said.
He was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where he died at 10:23 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Police confirmed that a death investigation was ongoing but declined to comment on whether any charges had been filed.
A DCFS spokesman said the department was investigating allegations of neglect against the parents and has had previous contact with this family regarding an indicated allegation of neglect in May 2010.
Six other children from the home were in the care of relatives on Sunday night, according to DCFS.
