Updated: May 31, 2013 12:49PM

A 17-year-old Downers Grove woman died after apparently being struck by lightning Thursday afternoon in a park in the western suburb.

Downers Grove police were called about 5:20 p.m. Thursday after the girl was found unresponsive at O’Brien Park on Dunham Road near 68th Street, according to the DuPage County Coroner’s office.

Police and paramedics found Jennie Dizon of Downers Grove lying on the ground but were unable to revive her, a statement from the coroner’s office said. She was pronounced dead on the scene about 5:45 p.m.

Preliminary results of a Friday morning autopsy showed Dizon died of “electrocution consistent with a lightning strike,” according to the coroner’s office. Full autopsy reports are pending.
