A 5-month-old boy was fatally stabbed at a North Side motel Thursday morning and his mother was injured, in what a source tells the Sun-Times was a possible homicide-attempted suicide.
Authorities were summoned to the motel in the 5200 block of North Lincoln Avenue about 10:30 a.m. and found mother and son.
The baby was taken to Swedish Convenant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:55 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The woman was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, Chicago Police said.
On Thursday afternoon, crime tape blocked off the motel room as police investigated the scene, a site that surprised Alex Ramirez as he arrived for work.
Ramirez, who is painting the exterior of the motel, said he saw the woman and her child Wednesday.
“She seemed happy,” he said.
Kai Muldreaux, 22, of Griffith, Ind., said he was staying next to the room where it happened — and didn’t know there was a problem until he looked out the window and saw all the police activity. Muldreaux did recall hearing a baby crying sometime Wednesday night.
“Somebody passed our doorway last night and a baby was crying,” Muldreaux said.
