A man died from injuries suffered in a West Side house fire Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The fire broke out in the one-and–a-half story home in the 4100 block of West Gladys in the West Garfield Park neighborhood about 4 a.m., according to Fire Media Affairs.
A 50-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center in critical condition after he was found in the basement of the building. He went into cardiac arrest and later died from injuries suffered in the blaze, authorities said.
The man suffered severe smoke inhalation and there were no working smoke detectors in the building, fire media said.
A firefighter who was injured in the blaze was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park in good condition, according to fire media.
