(McHenry County) The Jane Addams Memorial Tollway was shut down approaching Rockford Wednesday morning after a semi-truck crashed into the median and caught fire.
The semi was travelling eastbound near Route 20 on I-90 through a construction zone at about 5:29 a.m. when it veered left and hit the concrete median wall near an emergency turnaround point, according to Illinois State Police Master Sergeant Greg Minx. The crash caused the truck to catch fire.
A pickup truck travelling westbound on I-90 was hit by debris and diesel fuel as a result of the semi crash, Minx said, although he could not confirm whether the pickup also caught fire.
The driver of the semi sustained minor injuries while the driver of the pickup was unharmed, Minx said.
Eastbound and westbound lanes were shut down, with traffic being diverted to Genoa Road and Route 20 as of 6:30 a.m.
