A driver cut off a semi-truck on the Tri-State Tollway near the Wisconsin border Tuesday morning, causing a crash that ended with the truck’s tractor on fire and its trailer upside down in the opposite lanes, according to the Illinois State Police.
The semi-truck was traveling westbound on I-94 near Rosecrans Road about 5:33 a.m. when motorist cut the truck’s driver off, state police said.
The truck veered to the left and struck the median wall, which caused the trailer to break free and flip over the wall before crashing down in the eastbound lanes, Master Sergeant Greg Minx said. The trailer caught fire in the westbound lanes, but the driver was able to exit unharmed.
Eastbound lanes travelling towards Chicago were open but moving slowly as of 7 a.m., Minx said. Westbound lanes were open and moving normally.
