Updated: April 29, 2013 8:02PM

A middle school student was killed while rollerblading in a far west suburb, officials said.

Caitlyn Phillips, 13, of Elburn, died from injuries she sustained Friday after colliding into a car while rollerblading in the intersection of East Reader Street and North Third Street, Elburn Police said.

The vehicle, driven by a 34-year-old woman of Elburn, was traveling north on North Third Street at the time of the collision, which is a through street.

Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District paramedics were dispatched to the scene at around 3:30 p.m. The Harter Middle School seventh-grader was taken by ambulance to Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where she was pronounced dead at 4:37 p.m.

Elburn Police said witnesses reported seeing the young girl rollerblading east on East Reader Street on a downhill incline and it appeared she was unable able to stop before entering the North Third Street intersection, and struck the left front corner of the vehicle.

The accident is under investigation by Elburn Police and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.
