Two people were killed in a chain-reaction, seven-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Interstate 294 in near west suburban Elmhurst.
The crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-294 near Lake Street about 5:45 a.m., according to Illinois State Police.
According to preliminary police reports, a semi truck hit the rear end of a Toyota, causing a chain reaction involving two Hondas, a Ford and a Nissan, state police said.
Two of the occupants of the Toyota were pronounced dead at an area hospital emergency room, state police said.
As of about 1 p.m., two southbound lanes of I-294 at Lake Street remained closed for accident cleanup and investigation.
