A ramp on the Stevenson Expressway on the Southwest Side was shut down for about four hours Wednesday morning after a tanker began leaking hot tar.
About 7:50 a.m., a tanker containing hot tar was on the top of the ramp from Cicero to I-55 southbound when it began to leak hot tar, according to Illinois State Police.
The tanker was parked on the top of the ramp, which has been closed to traffic until the spill can be cleaned, state police said. Trooper Elizabeth Nanai said about 11:40 a.m. that police expect the cleanup to be completed about noon.
A Level I Hazardous Materials response was called by the Chicago Fire Department for the spill, but was secured about 11:25 a.m.
