New team to play on Rockford Peaches field

ROCKFORD — A new team will play on the same field as the Rockford Peaches.
The Rockford Starfires women’s baseball team was introduced over the weekend. WNIJ radio reports the team will play at Beyer Field, the same field where the Rockford Peaches played. The Rockford Peaches were portrayed in the 1992 film “A League of Their Own.”
The Starfires coach will be Greg Schwanke. He’s also been working on restoring Beyer Field.
The Starfires’ first game is May 18 against the Chicago Gems.
