CTA Red Line back to normal after subway rubbish fire

Red Line trains were rerouted Monday afternoon because of a small rubbish fire in a Loop subway, but normal service resumed prior to the evening rush.
Fire crews were called to the subway in the 100 block of North State Street about 3:25 p.m., according to dispatch reports. Power to the tracks was shut off, and firefighters were on the scene.
The fire turned out to be a small rubbish fire that was soon extinguished, according to Fire Media Affairs, which noted that it was “not a newsworthy event.”
It was put out by 3:40 p.m., according to dispatch reports. There were no reported injuries.
CTA Red Line subway trains were temporarily rerouted to the elevated tracks between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown, according to a CTA rider alert.
Trains had resumed normal service as of about 4:30 p.m., the transit agency said. Riders may encounter some residual delays.
