Chicago firefighters were called to the Archer Heights neighborhood Monday after a small explosion and chemical spill.

The Level I hazarous-materials response was called about 12:50 p.m. for an incident in the 4800 block of South Saint Louis Avenue, an area of warehouses and light industrial businesses.

A Fire Media Affairs spokesman said there was a chemical spill in a factory. No other details were immediately available.

According to dispatch reports, an explosion was caused when a couple of chemicals, one of them cyanide, were mixed.
