A Winnetka resident attending the University of Denver was killed Friday after being struck by a vehicle near the university, according to police in Denver, Colo.
Wilson King, 20, of Winnetka, was struck by a vehicle early Friday morning, sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release from the Denver Medical Examiner’s office.
“About 12:38 a.m. (Friday) morning our officers responded to this accident which was in the 1800 block of east Evans Avenue in Denver,” said Officer Aaron Kafer, spokesperson for the Denver Police Department. “One vehicle was involved and the vehicle remained on the scene.”
The accident took place on East Evans Avenue near South High Street as King attempted to cross Evans Avenue on foot, Kafer said.
“The initial investigation was that this accident was not related to the intersection,” Kafer said. “Apparently Mr. King entered the roadway somewhere mid-block, not in the crosswalk area.”
Kafer said there was no suspicion of DUI on the part of the driver of the vehicle.
“The case is still under investigation, but no citation was given to the driver” Kafer said. “The case is still being reviewed by our investigators.”
