Four runways at O’Hare International Airport were temporarily closed when the lights went out about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.
The problem was resolved at 10 p.m., Department of Aviation spokeswoman Karen Pride said.
The number of flights delayed by the power outage was not immediately available, and passengers were advised to contact airlines to check flight statuses, Pride said.
The runways affected, all on the north airfield, are primarily used for arrivals, Pride said.
The cause of the outage was under investigation.
Flights also were affected Thursday by low visibility, according to the Department of Aviation. As of 8:30 p.m., more than 180 flights had been canceled at O’Hare, and flights at Midway were delayed up to 30 minutes.
