After seven months on the run, an alleged gang member wanted in the murder of a 15-year-old Back of the Yards boy has been arrested in Los Angeles.
David Ruiz — who goes by the street name “Garbage” according to court papers — allegedly gunned down Jaime Ruvalcaba in broad daylight on a busy stretch of West 47th Street on Aug. 21 last year.
Identified as a suspect by Chicago Police, the 24-year-old soon fled his home in the 4700 block of South Loomis, and the city, but was nabbed during a traffic stop Friday by the FBI and Los Angeles Police, the FBI said in a news release.
His father had told investigators he didn’t expect Ruiz to return to Chicago, while a fellow member of La Raza street gang had claimed Ruiz was hiding out in Mexico or Texas, according to court papers.
Ruiz was to be moved to the Cook County Jail, where he will await trial on first-degree murder charges.
