Northeastern Illinois weathered a stormy morning commute Wednesday.
Showers and thunderstorms drenched the area Wednesday morning, with small hail and about a quarter-inch of rain pelting O’Hare International Airport, according to the National Weather Service. The same line of storms dumped more than a half-inch of rain at Rockford Airport.
The rain should taper off by the afternoon before picking back up again overnight, the weather service said.
While Chicago is at slight risk for severe weather, the most intense storms are expected to hit south of I-80 and northwest around Rockford, the weather service said.
Rainfall between one-half and three-quarters of an inch is possible Wednesday, with another three-quarters to 1 inch possible overnight. A flood watch is currently in place for the Rockford area. A flood watch was not issued for Cook County.
