Blaze erupts in 3-story building on South Side

Updated: April 10, 2013 9:46AM

No injuries were reported Wednesday morning from a fire at a vacant building in the South Chicago neighborhood.

The blaze prompted officials to cordon off several blocks around the 7900 block of South Essex Avenue and nearby CTA buses were rerouted.

Heavy flames were first reported on the third floor of the three-story brick building about 6:30 a.m., according to Fire Media Affairs.

Firefighters attacked the flames from the outside because the building is abandoned, Fire Media said.

CTA buses travelling 79th Street in both directions were being rerouted because of the fire, according to a CTA alert.

The fire was out by 7:55 a.m., according to Fire Media.
