A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting Sunday afternoon on the West Side.
The shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of South Leavitt, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Joshua Purkiss said.
The boy was shot in the chest and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 4:56 p.m., authorities said.
Police on the scene radioed a description of the gunman’s vehicle and officers nearby found a vehicle matching the description and took three males into custody, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said. A weapon was recovered.
Police said the suspects and the victim were documented gang members.
The victim’s identity was not being released Sunday evening pending notification of relatives, a Cook County Medical Examiner’s office spokesman said.
Area Central detectives were investigating.
